True Story: I Won the Lottery

Alright, so you think I won the money lottery. Fair enough, that is the title of my post. But the truth is that I won the BABY lottery! And that is so much better than the money lottery. You probably think that is a ridiculous statement, but in my world its the truth. Because I am pregnant, not with one baby, but with TWO! In my world, that is the most amazing news I could have ever gotten.

See, I am not a cute, perky pregnant lady. I am a sleepy, cranky pregnant lady whose patience thins as her belly grows. For this reason, the fact that I am getting two snuggly babies out of the deal instead of one is amazing news!

Twins don't run in my family, and I had no reason to expect this. But at my first ultrasound the ultrasound tech casually said, "Alright, here is the baby and the heartbeat. And...here is the other baby, and the other heartbeat."

You guys? I nearly jumped through the roof. I was like, "WHAT???????" And then I started laughing and crying all at the same time. A lot.

Since then, my husband and I have had so much fun telling all of our friends and especially our family the exciting news. Everyone has been beyond thrilled and watching their reactions has been priceless!

I am due in March but I hear twins rarely go to 40 weeks, so I think we will have them by February. Which is great, because I have a short torso and there is nowhere for these babies to go but outward with an enormous belly. I am only 14 weeks and I am pretty sure I already look like what a normal 6 month pregnant belly looks like. But who cares?! Because, twins!!!

It will be an... interesting... experience trying to homeschool 3 kids, a toddler underfoot, and twin babies. A friend sent me this blog post on homeschooling with twins from Amongst Lovely Things, and although it's clear that this will be an even bigger challenge than the one I detailed on my post  Homeschooling is Hard, I am up for the challenge. It probably will help that I have several years of homeschooling under my belt now and at the very least I know what to expect.

In the meantime, I am going to just enjoy the journey and read as much as I can on what to expect with twins! In some ways I feel like I am going to be a parent for the first time. It's that feeling of not really knowing what to expect and hoping you will be up to the task. It's so exciting and a little scary. But above all, its absolutely and completely thrilling. I have truly won the lottery!
