Family Friendly Fun in Las Vegas
Las Vegas is known for a lot of things, mainly involving entertainment for adults. But families do actually live here, and what do they do for entertainment? This is the eternal question for our family, because we want to make sure that we are protecting our four kids from the inappropriate things that are out there. These days even things that are supposedly family-friendly reveal values that are less than wholesome.
One of the acts that I found especially incredible was that of a young boy of about 9 or 10 years old doing some insane balancing moves, upside down on his hands. I want to describe for you what he was doing, but you really have to see it to know what I am talking about! Here is a little peek at the beginning of the act.... as time went on those poles got higher and more precarious.
Fortunately for my family, and for all you families out there with young kids, there is a beautifully traditional attraction here in Las Vegas, but it will only be here for a few more days. I am talking about the circus! And more specifically, Circus Vargas. We went down to Boca Park yesterday, where the girls and I were able to enjoy the show together.
They were so excited when they spotted the big top tent! And the first thing that saw made me fall in love with Circus Vargas - the looks on the girls' faces when we walked in there! We were a little late because our son was sick and we were scrambling to get out of the house, so we finally came in during one of the acrobatic trapeze performances. The look of wonder and awe on their little faces was priceless! They were truly amazed, and so was I.
Circus Vargas is a one-ring European style circus, so the show involved stunning acrobatics, a clown, magic and illusion, dancing, and lots of music. I was very nervous at the end of the show when a steel cage in the shape of a ball was rolled out and two motorcyclists revved into it and started spinning around each other. I was so scared that they would crash! But thankfully they are such professionals that it all went off without a hitch! Look at this, they are going so fast they are just a blur!

There was a break halfway, during which you could get all the traditional fun stuff at a circus - popcorn, face painting and glowing toys. The facilities were immaculately clean port-a-potties with hand washing stations. There was also a changing table set up for babies, in case you are wondering. At the end of the show the entire cast of performers waits outside as people come out, so you can stop and talk to them and get a picture with them.
All in all, a really magical experience that you have got to try out with your kids! And hurry up, too - they are only in town a few more days!!
I read a few days ago that they don't do any animal acts so it's the ideal circus for those concerned about animal mistreatment :-)
